Stuff that catches my interest, not quite random, but random seeming.

Audio Journal, Day 17

09:00 - The server turned itself off last night at 01:00, so the numbers look like this then:

rDAC: 47:00; Jolida: 61:30; MA1s: 98:30

14:00 - Started iTunes playing through the rDAC. I’m also playing with speaker placement. I moved my bookshelf and computer desk closer to the southern wall. This gives me more space in my audio area, and I don’t feel as if there’s a big piece of furniture to my left while I’m listening. I moved the Snells about a foot further out toward the listening area, and a foot further apart. This will be where I begin tonight. I left the spikes off of the speakers until I find a placement I like.

What I would really like to do is remove the desk from the room entirely. This would allow me to put the stereo against the southern wall and use the length of the room for listening. However, this really isn’t practical, as Autumn pointed out. Still, there might be another way of rearranging everything to take more advantage of the space.

Still, I’m looking forward to experimenting tonight. Giles might be coming by, too.

Audio Journal, Day 16

09:00 - Let iTunes play all night again. Going to let everything rest until my session this evening.

rDAC: 41:00; Jolida: 56:30; MA1s: 92:30

Didn’t really get a chance to listen this evening, but I turned the tubes on about 7 and let them play until midnight. Letting iTunes play through tonight, so that should complete the MA1s’ break-in period.

rDAC: 46:00; Jolida: 61:30; MA1s: 97:30

Audio Journal, Day 15

11:30 - I let the Arcam rDAC play through the night in an attempt to get through the “difficult stage” of my interconnects’ break-in period. They now have about 72 hours on them; I’ll probably push through 100 this weekend. I’m going to let them rest for an hour and start listening a bit about 12:30.

rDAC: 20:30; Jolida: 47:00; MA1s: 72:00

20:39 - I’ve been listening on and off all day, starting about 13:30. Right now is Yes’ — The Yes Album — in Kip’s honor. It doesn’t sound bad. I forgot how long these songs are, though. “Starship Trooper” is still cool.

I’ve listened to a few songs from Rosie Vela’s Zazu — including “Interlude,” the song Becker and Fagen played on — and they are clean, like Steely Dan’s work. It’s worth listening to, and I’ll get back to it.

Spent some time with the Barenaked Ladies. I think their earlier stuff is best, though I must admit I’m not very familiar with their work after Maroon. Steven Page has a remarkable voice, and the band is worse off for losing him, I’m afraid.

rDAC: 30:00; Jolida: 56:30; MA1s: 81:30 - stopped at 22:00
